How do I know which filter size I need?
Check the label on your Austin Air unit — standard units begin with HM4 (like HM400), junior units start with HM2 (like HM200), and the personal "it" units are smaller and labeled accordingly. You can also measure your unit or use our “Help Me Choose” tool.
Are Austin Air filters interchangeable?
Yes — but only within the same size category.
All standard-size filters fit all standard-size purifiers. So you can upgrade your filter (for example, from a HealthMate to a Bedroom Machine filter) without replacing your unit. Junior and “it” models require their own unique filter sizes.
Do I need a new filter when I buy a new Austin Air purifier?
No — every Austin Air purifier comes with a filter already installed and ready to use. You only need to purchase a replacement when it's time for a change, usually every 5 years.
Can I upgrade my current unit with a different filter type?
Absolutely. If you own a standard-size unit, you can switch to any other standard-size filter type — like the Bedroom Machine or HealthMate Plus — at any time. It’s an easy way to customize your purifier based on your current air quality needs.

Do filters include the prefilter?
