What’s the difference between The Austin Air Filters?

ALL Austin Air purifiers start with two essential prefilters (these help increase the longevity and filtration capacity of the main filter - most other brands do not have these.):

• Large particle prefilter: Removes visible particles such as dust, hair, and pet dander
• Medium particle prefilter: Removes small to medium particles such as mold spores and pollen

Additionally, all Austin Air purifiers have an unprecedented amount of medical-grade HEPA for particle removal and some form of carbon for chemical removal. (It should be noted we use far more combined HEPA/carbon than other brands in the industry.)

From there, each model uses additional filtration media depending on your air quality needs. Think of the lineup as levels of protection that build on each other.

Designed for broad, whole-room air cleaning and was our flagship product in 1990.

Filtration media includes:

• A large bed of granular activated carbon and Mineral-Based Filtration (up to 15 lbs.!) to adsorb odors, gases, VOCs, and chemicals
• 60 square feet of true medical-grade HEPA to capture dust, pollen, mold spores, bacteria, and ultrafine particles

Best for: Homes, schools, and shared spaces needing consistent, everyday air quality improvement.

Designed specifically for allergy and asthma relief. This is available only as a replacement filter.

Filtration media includes:

• 60 square feet of true, medical-grade HEPA to capture dust, pollen, mold spores, bacteria, and ultrafine particles
• Military-grade HEGA carbon cloth to adsorb gases, odors, bacteria, and viruses

Best for: Environments where airborne particles and allergens are the primary concern and quick purification is a must.

Everything in the HealthMate, plus:

• A special impregnated carbon to better remove certain VOCs, formaldehyde, benzene, and wildfire-related toxins

Best for: Wildfire smoke, renovation fumes, high-VOC environments, and stronger chemical exposure.

Combines the filtration of both base models (Allergy Machine Filter + HealthMate Filter):

• 60 square feet of true, medical-grade HEPA for particles and allergens
• Military-grade HEGA carbon cloth (A single gram of HEGA cloth has a surface area equivalent to half the size of a football field.)
• Up to 15 lbs of our activated carbon and Mineral-Based Filtration mixture for chemical and odor adsorption

Best for: Bedrooms as the additional carbon removes pollutants off-gassing from furniture, flooring, mattresses, and household materials to assist lungs in the supine (sleeping) position.

This is the highest level of protection in the Austin Air lineup.

It includes all core filtration technologies used across other models, and adds a proprietary four-phase granular defense system that aggressively targets harmful gases and toxins.
