According to the experts, the key is to plan and get organized before you leave. So before you head off, it may be worth scheduling a visit to your health care provider to ensure all medications are up to date. This will also give you an opportunity to discuss your travel plans with them and listen to any advice they may have.Health insurance documents, asthma or allergy action plans and your doctors contact info all need to be packed and taken with you. Also take some time before you leave to check which hospitals and pharmacies are near to where you’re staying.

If a member of your family suffers from food allergies, plan your travel meals in advance and be sure to pack extra in case of delays. If you are flying you should be able to request an allergen free meal for your journey. Remember to pack all emergency medications in your carry-on luggage and be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the journey, as dry air on planes can aggravate asthma and allergy symptoms. It may also be worth ringing ahead to the restaurants at your destination, to check they cater for people with allergies.A little thought and planning before you head off on vacation will keep stress levels to a minimum.
